I am a tree ecophysiologist. I study the physiological, molecular, and developmental responses involved in acclimatization to drought, particularly in poplars, using interdisciplinary and integrative approaches (ecophysiology-functional genomics). In addition, I study the biophysical and molecular controls of root growth in response to drought and mechanical stress. I characterize growth through kinematic analysis, which provides insight into cell expansion capacity and meristematic activity. I combine these data with measurements of stress, physiological, and molecular parameters to understand the biological responses induced by water deficit or mechanical constraint.

I mainly study the response of forest trees to drought, with water use efficiency as a focal point and a whole-plant reponse approach. I am interested in characterising the intraspecific diversity of drought responses of forest trees and the geographical structure of this diversity.

My research focuses on the study of plants’ ability to withstand and counteract abiotic stresses in their environment. For example, I investigate the impact of strong winds on a plant’s ability to maintain an upright growth habit, as well as plant adaptations to varying levels of pollution.

I conduct gene expression analyses of target genes (using qPCR) as well as transcriptomic analyses (using RNA-Seq and Affymetrix microarrays) in support of research programs on the plasticity and diversity of tree responses to abiotic stresses (mainly on poplar and oak submitted to drought and/or ozone).

Thesis topic: Influence of temporal photosynthesis-stomatal conductance decoupling on water and carbon fluxes from leaf to canopy scales under different environmental conditions in European beech (Fagus sylvatica L.). PhD student in forest ecophysiology investigating how the decoupling between photosynthesis and stomatal conductance affects carbon and water fluxes in European beech (Fagus sylvatica L.). Combining gas exchange measurements (greenhouse/forest) and dynamic modeling, I quantify how canopy structure, drought, and potassium nutrition modulate stomatal kinetics.

I conduct research on stomatal responses in several tree species (poplar, beech, oak) to different environmental stresses. This work relies on molecular biology approaches (gene expression), ecophysiology (leaf gas exchange), and anatomy (microscopy). To this end, I am developing a phenotyping platform focused on drought control and drone-based imaging, including thermal, multispectral, and now hyperspectral cameras.

My research in plant ecophysiology focuses on three main areas: photosynthesis, water relations, and plant hydraulics. I have explored these topics in the context of drought stress across a wide range of species, from model plants to forest trees. My long-term goal is to determine the limits of plant performance under water scarcity, as projected under current global change scenarios. I currently conduct field and greenhouse experiments focused on tree physiology in the context of forest regeneration.

My main activity consists of developing and implementing biochemical and molecular biology techniques. In particular, I develop LC-MS (liquid chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry) analysis methods for metabolites from plant matrices. I am the technical advisor for an LC-MS device on the ASIA (Functional and Structural Approaches to Cellular Interactions) platform. In addition, I am one of the health and safety prevention assistants for the Silva Unit.
